密歇根理工大學（Michigan Technological University，縮寫MTU）是一所位于美國密歇根州的公立研究型大學。密歇根理工大學成立于1885年，此時正值美國銅礦業(yè)的鼎盛時期，而密歇根的北部半島則發(fā)現(xiàn)了巨大的銅礦，密歇根理工學院正是為順應(yīng)當?shù)夭傻V及冶金業(yè)的蓬勃發(fā)展而建立的，專門培養(yǎng)采礦工程及冶金工程師。它是密歇根北部半島的第一所高等教育機構(gòu)。*(1)

學校歷史

密歇根理工大學歷史上曾三次更名，以適應(yīng)其不同階段學校角色的變化。1885年建校時原名密歇根礦業(yè)學校（Michigan Mining School），專門培養(yǎng)采礦工程師。隨著學校的擴展，不久該名字便無法代表學校已成為一所“學院（College）”的事實，1897年學校更名為密歇根礦業(yè)學院（Michigan College of Mines）。1925年，隨著學校開設(shè)的課程的多樣化及擴大化，學校不再只是一所“礦業(yè)”學校，于是開始醞釀改名，并于1927年正式更名為密歇根礦業(yè)與技術(shù)學院（ichigan College of Mining and Technology）。1935年-1956年，格羅夫·C·迪爾曼（Grover C. Dillman）任校長期間，密歇根理工大學獲得了長足的發(fā)展，建造了聯(lián)合紀念大廈（Memorial Union Building）、開設(shè)了溜冰及高爾夫課程，1948年學生人數(shù)首次超過2000人。格羅夫的繼任者J.羅伯特 ·范·佩爾特（J. Robert Van Pelt）重新引入許多PhD課程，并將學校的目標設(shè)定為一所研究型大學。羅伯特的任期的最后一年，學校正式獲得“大學（University）”的地位，同時定名為密歇根理工大學。

校園環(huán)境

密歇根理工大學主校區(qū)位于密歇根北部半島的霍頓市，占地925英畝（約 3.74平方公里），遠眺密歇根湖運河便映入眼簾。

密歇根理工大學校園整體布局十分緊湊，步行橫穿整個校園用不到10分鐘，校園建筑都非常的高，這樣可以縮小校園的空間。

密歇根理工大學擁有一座高爾夫球場，位于主校園以南2英里，并設(shè)有高爾夫課程。該高爾夫課程始建于1902年，1945年，該課程因資金原因無以為繼，便以1美元的象征性價格賣給了密歇根理工大學。該球場后來經(jīng)歷了多次擴建，包括新增的9個洞等。

盡管密歇根理工大學開設(shè)的課程多達130多種，商科、經(jīng)濟、人文、藝術(shù) 、社科等等都有開設(shè)，但實質(zhì)密歇根理工60%的學生都是理工科學生，理工也是密歇根理工最為優(yōu)秀的專業(yè)。

密歇根理工的環(huán)境工程與機械工程專業(yè)的招生是全美最多的學校，招生人數(shù)至少是美國前十。它的電氣工程是美國少數(shù)以“DSP第一” （即數(shù)字信號處理優(yōu)先）為準設(shè)置課程的，這種課程設(shè)置，一般只有理工頂尖的學校才有這么做。
