統(tǒng)計(jì)學(xué)（Statistics），研究如何測定、收集、整理、歸納和分析反映客觀現(xiàn)象總體數(shù)量的數(shù)據(jù)，以便給出正確認(rèn)識(shí)的方法論科學(xué)。其目的是要解決問題。*(1)
數(shù)學(xué)與統(tǒng)計(jì)學(xué)的區(qū)別
統(tǒng)計(jì)學(xué)分?jǐn)?shù)理統(tǒng)計(jì)和經(jīng)濟(jì)統(tǒng)計(jì)兩個(gè)方向。其中數(shù)理統(tǒng)計(jì)是屬于數(shù)學(xué)科目里面的一個(gè)分支，數(shù)學(xué)從某種意義上說可以是統(tǒng)計(jì)學(xué)的基礎(chǔ)。統(tǒng)計(jì)偏向分支，更加細(xì)化，沒有數(shù)學(xué)那么寬泛；經(jīng)濟(jì)統(tǒng)計(jì)是偏向統(tǒng)計(jì)學(xué)知識(shí)在經(jīng)濟(jì)中的應(yīng)用的。
