生物醫(yī)學工程（Biomedical Engineering）屬于一門交叉學科，與生物工程密切相關，是將工程技術與醫(yī)學相結合以提高醫(yī)療水平的一門學科，其主要目的是研發(fā)各類先進醫(yī)療設備。傳統(tǒng)的生物醫(yī)學工程其研究領域非常廣泛，包括：生物信息學、醫(yī)學圖像、圖像處理、生理信號處理、生物力學、生物材料、系統(tǒng)分析、三維建模等等。生物醫(yī)學工程的應用實例有生物兼容的假體、醫(yī)療器械、診斷設備、MRI和EEG這樣的成像設備以及醫(yī)用藥品。其它還包括起搏器、infusion pump、心肺機、透析機、診斷設備、人工器官、移植以及先進的彌補術等，都屬于生物醫(yī)學工程的研發(fā)產品。
