環(huán)境工程（Environmental Engineering）為應(yīng)用科學(xué)與工程之方法來改善環(huán)境（包括空氣、水、土地資源），進而為人類之居住以及其他生物體提供對健康有益的水、空氣以及土壤，亦包括污染場址之復(fù)育。我們可經(jīng)由教育大眾、保護環(huán)境、訂立規(guī)定以及應(yīng)用良好工程實作(Good Engineering Practice)來減輕與控制對環(huán)境的負面影響。
環(huán)境工程與環(huán)境科學(xué)的區(qū)別
環(huán)境工程屬于工科，除了學(xué)習(xí)了解環(huán)境學(xué)相關(guān)的理論知識外，還要學(xué)習(xí)了解工程類的理論，其重點在現(xiàn)有成熟的理論的應(yīng)用實踐；環(huán)境科學(xué)屬于理科，主要偏向于專業(yè)理論的研究，重點是理論的研究與發(fā)展。
