新聞學(xué)（Jounalism）是一種包含搜集、撰寫及報道新聞的學(xué)科。在廣義上，它亦包含了編輯和演示新聞專題的過程。新聞學(xué)在報業(yè)、電視、電臺以及網(wǎng)絡(luò)新媒體等各種傳播媒介上均起著重要的作用。屬于傳播學(xué)的一個分支。
二十年代初，傳統(tǒng)新聞工作者都是受雇的畢業(yè)于相關(guān)學(xué)士學(xué)位的專業(yè)人士?？墒堑搅司攀甏?，隨著新聞制作數(shù)碼化及互聯(lián)網(wǎng)的普及程度日益上升，傳統(tǒng)、專業(yè)的新聞文化正在受到挑戰(zhàn)。民間記者的概念應(yīng)運而生，網(wǎng)絡(luò)上的記者可以透過不同渠道來把自己制作的新聞發(fā)放，而不只限于透過專業(yè)的媒體渠道。
前華盛頓郵報編輯菲爾·格雷厄姆形容以消息導(dǎo)向的新聞寫作是“歷史初稿”[1]，因為每當(dāng)重大歷史事件發(fā)生時，新聞工作者都把它們記錄下來，接著把該些專題報道在短時間內(nèi)制成，而這與寫作歷史的初稿無異。*(1)
